Meet Happy Huey
He’s not a Flufferty Nuttle, or a Zoopy Wigglepuff, or even a Whippity Snoodle, as his magical forest friends might think. He’s just Happy Huey.
And that’s more than enough.
The Happy Huey series is a collection of stand-alone, rhythmic, read-aloud picture books for ages 4-8, where Happy Huey and his magical forest friends find their way through plenty of adventures with curiosity, and the silliest words along the way.

Happy Huey thinks he might be magic. Honestly, some days, so do we. He’s bow-legged, with side-ways paws, snaggle-toothed, and has ears like wispy ponytails.
In I’m Not a Flufferty Nuttle, he wanders into an enchanted wood and is mistaken by a pixie, an ogre, and a faery court for something magical. For one wobbly moment, he believes them.

A forest pixie gasps.
“OH! A FLUFFERTY NUTTLE!”
“Actually, I’m a dog,” says Happy Huey.
The pixie squints.
She circles him once.
“No, no. Dogs have sensible ears.
And much less floof.”
“I AM a dog,” says Happy Huey.
“Hmm. We should ask the Ogre.
She knows everything.”
The Real Happy Huey
The real Happy Huey is my granddog, a rescue pup who belongs to my daughter and co-author, Amelia Husbands.
When Huey stays with us, I take him on long walks, but I never get far before someone stops me to ask the same question:
“What is he?”
I usually say, well, we’re not exactly sure, except that he’s just a dog.
